Positive Displacement Vane Pump Analysis

Project type

Mechanical Design

Date

Nov 2021 - Feb 2022

Skills

SOLIDWORKS

This project focuses on the detailed analysis and modeling of a Positive Displacement Vane Pump. The study involved calculating the volumetric flow rate and analyzing the pulsation characteristics of the pump using precise measurements, CAD modeling, and two distinct methods for flow rate calculation.

Key Features:
- Volumetric Flow Rate Calculation: The flow rate was calculated using two different methods: a geometrical approach based on precise measurements of the stator, rotor, and vanes, and an analytical approach utilizing the pump's operating parameters. These methods were cross-verified to ensure accuracy.
- Pulsation Analysis: The pulsation in the flow rate was analyzed by considering the volume change over a full rotation of the rotor, providing insights into the smoothness of the fluid flow delivered by the pump.
- CAD Modeling: The pump's components were modeled using CAD software to visualize the geometry and simulate the fluid dynamics, ensuring accurate calculations and analysis.
- Seal Selection: The project also involved selecting the appropriate seals to ensure the desired level of fluid containment, taking into account the operating pressures and temperatures.
